About YWAM Lae
Our History
YWAM Lae was pioneered by David and Kathleen Tabor in 1983. The Tabors arrived in Port Moresby and traveled to Lae because of the strategic location Lae is to the 7 Highlands Provinces by road and also to Ramu and Madang in the Momase Region by road links. Because Lae is a port city we have easy access to the South of Morobe Province and North Coast Oro Province. Lae is the provincial administration Head Quarters of Morobe Province's 9 Districts. YWAM Lae ministry in the city of Lae focuses on Evangelism, Training and Mercy Ministry and recently during the YWAM 60th Anniversary YWAM Lae signed up as an Oral Bible Translatio hub in Papua New Guinea. Children's Ministry has been a significant piece of YWAM Lae's ministry throughout the years and continues to be a key part of what YWAM Lae does to reach others with the good news of Jesus Christ.
Since 2013 YWAM Lae has been under the leadership of Winterford Barua. Winterford is from Oro province, While his family now resides in Denmark, Winterford continues the mission in Papua New Guinea. Winterford is visionary and passionate about seeing more Papua New Guineans mobilized to impact Papua New Guinea and surrounding nations with the gospel and transformation through discipleship.
Mercy Ministry
We serve the community by meeting physical and practical needs through feeding ministries at hospitals, in our Kid's Church Sunday School program, and to widows and others in the community. Other mercy-focused outreaches include community clean-up and assisting with physical labour tasks among other acts of service.
Training
We conduct six month Discipleship Training Schools to train and equip more missionaries to be sent out to serve and minister to Papua New Guinea and the nations. Learn more about DTS here.
Evangelism
Our evangelism efforts include street evangelism, village outreach, prayer walks, Bible distribution, preaching in schools, outreach in remote villages and more!
